Coal terminal in Russia’s Nakhodka cuts coal handling by 50%

VLADIVOSTOK, Feb 9 (PRIME) -- Stevedore company Terminal Astafiev located in Russia’s Far East, has cut its coal handling by 95,500 tonnes, or by about 50%, to reduce handling of dust-forming cargoes and to improve environment in the city of Nakhodka, the Primorsky Region’s government said in a statement on Friday.

The region’s acting Governor Andrei Tarasenko and the company’s CEO Ruslan Kondratov signed an agreement to cut coal handling by 50% on January 30.

“Until the end of 2018, the company is to design arched structures over the unloading areas, and arrange coal handling via a 550-meter enclosed conveyor line before 2021. Additional spending on these projects will exceed 340 million rubles,” the statement read.

In June 2017, local boy Andrei complained about dust problems in Nakhodka to President Vladimir Putin during a Direct Line Q&A session.
